Introducing Me

 Hey everyone! My name is Celie and I am a senior studying Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience here at Virginia Tech. Ever since I was a freshman here and had heard about this class, I knew I had to take it before I graduated. I feel it is safe to say many of the people taking this wine class do not know much about the culture of wine, and I fall into the same boat. My wine education is not much other than the few types of wine I know I enjoy drinking. Personally, I only have a little experience with drinking wine but wine has always been something I was exposed to throughout my life. My grandparents are big wine drinkers, so every time we would go visit them they would have tons of bottles and a glass or two with our meal.  

I have tried wine a good amount of times, but have not tried too many different types of wine. During quarantine, I and a couple friends would get together, drink wine, and eat cheese. We definitely had no idea the best cheeses to pair with the wines we were having, we would just drink the wine and eat the cheese that was in front of us. So far in this course, I have learned more about wine in a week than I have my entire life, so I am looking forward to learning more about wine and the power it holds.

                                                                When drinking wines, I tend to lean more toward white wines. I have had some red wines, but most of them have been really bitter except for some dessert wines I have drank. When it comes to the sweetness of wines I definitely prefer a sweeter wine. The types of wine I have had the most are Moscato and Sauvignon Blanc. Recently I got a bottle of Pinot Grigio and thought it was a pretty good wine. This semester I am excited to dive into wines I am not familiar with and to expand my knowledge of wine and all its properties.
